Kateslem Youth Society

Where youth can be youth

Our after school program allows youth to learn essential life skills, conflict resolution, preventative programs, socialization, sports, lessons (swimming, dance, martial arts, skating), new adventures like fishing, dragon boating, camping, horseback riding, gardening, meal prep and planning as well as resume writing and leadership.  With mental health supports such as our puppetry forum and our companion dogs, Kateslem offers much to middle school aged youth, free of charge with so much more to see...

Please contact us prior to filling out a registration form as we have multiple locations and are limited in the number of youth in each room.

Who We Are

Kateslem, an Indigenous word meaning "coming together as one" started from a recognized need for a safe space for middle school aged youth to learn essential life skills, how to keep themselves safe, and how to leave the stresses of home outside and just be kids. Our strength lies in the future of our youth and our goal is to provide them with everything they need to become successful adults. From the moment we started our work in 2000, we understood that by working together we could overcome our challenges much more efficiently, and that is why we ultimately decided to launch Kateslem Youth Society. We strive to make a positive change in the lives of all our youth along with their families and care givers.

Ways We Help

Apart from our after school programs that teach essential life skills, socialization, and so much more, Kateslem has many ways we help today's children and youth including food security and mental health supports

Gardening

Community Gardens

Kateslem Youth Society is committed to helping with food security while providing educational opportunities for our members. Our newest venture to reduce the costs associated with food production is to invest in 2 new greenhouses, 4 large garden plots, fruit bearing trees, and farm animals including highland cows, goats and chickens.  These will allow us to feed those in need year round.

Mental health

Kateslem has been invested in mental health for many years now. Through our companion dog program and mental health puppetry forum, Kateslem is able to touch on topics that are challenging for the youth anonymously while offering continued support through counselling and other resources.
